Profile:
The band was first put together
by JBlack, as part of the first
"Rolling Stones Festival" of
2007, in Eckington, Derbyshire. (Eckington
has a significant link with The
Rolling Stones as Mick Jagger’s
grandmother was from Eckington
and is now buried there, and
Mick has been a frequent visitor
to his grandmother’s grave.)
At
the Festival on Bank Holiday
Monday, 2007, J.Black (who was a
Rolling Stones fan from their
beginning in the 60’s) wrote out
the music and lyrics of twenty
Rolling Stones’ songs and put
together a band to perform them
made up of members of the
Kahunas (a local classic rock
band), and young Ben from
Eckington who bears a striking
resemblance to Mick Jagger. The
unrehearsed performance was
magical, because of the power of
the songs, the way that Ben
slipped into the Mick Jagger
role as if he had been born to
it, and the way the band
immediately grasped the "loose
but tight" conundrum in the feel
of The Rolling Stones music. The
band decided that this was the
way ahead for them.
The band started performing late
December 2007 under the name of
"The Stoned Angels" (The name
came from the fact that that
first performance in the
Eckington Rolling Stones
Festival, was performed in a
local venue called The Angel
Hotel). The second gig they
performed was on a Sunday night
at "The Diamond" in Sutton in
Ashfield, a Rock Tribute Venue.
Although still a little ragged
at the seams, the performance
was greeted with great acclaim,
with many people impressed at
how the band had captured the
"feel" of The Rolling Stones
Music, and The Diamond booked
them back for a Saturday night
(their big night) later in the
year.
The band continued
as "The Stoned
Angels" playing pubs
and clubs in the
local music scene
around Chesterfield
and Sheffield,
playing to packed
venues reminiscent
of the early Rolling
Stones work, with
people standing on
chairs to see the
band, and people
dancing in every
available space.
J.Black invited
Steve Barker of
Morningside
Management to the
Diamond gig in June.
He liked what he saw
and heard and agreed
to take on the Band
to promote them to
the UK Theatre
circuit.
J.Black then
formally became the
Manager of the band
and established an
exclusive agreement
with Morningside
Management for
Theatre work. During
the process of
establishing the
band as a
professional outfit
the current line up
was established and
the name changed to
"The Stones".
On September 8th
2008, the band
recorded a
promotional DVD at
The Princess Theatre
in Cannock, which
can be seen here on
the web site. (DVD
will be posted
shortly)

"Just

"I am a big
fan of The
Rolling
Stones for
the last
forty years,
and at first
was wary
about coming
to the show,
after five
minutes I
was
speechless
that The
Stones could
be as good
if not
better than
the real
thing,
absolutely
brilliant,
their
recreation
of of The
Rolling
Stones was
more like a
reincarnation,
cant wait
for the next
show" Gerry

Reviews:
“This is not
just a great
tribute band,
this is a great
band” – Rudi
(Rudi’s Rock and
Blues Cafe)
Fab!! Saw them last
night (13 June) in
Cheltenham. My wife
is bonkers about the
group after their
performance" - Mick
Campbell
"I also saw them in
Cheltenham (13 June)
and thought they
were brilliant. Have
already recommended
them to friends
if/when they return
to Cheltenham" -
Hazel Midwinter
"Just seen these
tonight
(17th July) at
Customs House, South
Shields, what a
great act. The
performance has to
be seen to be
believed, would not
surprise me if this
tribute band
generates another
tribute band to them
in 45 years time!" -
Arthur Richardson
"Saw this band at
South Shields,
absolutely
fantastic! Very
talented performers,
great entertainers
and a show that I
will never forget" -
Elaine Buckmaster
"Saw them last night
at the Customs
House, South
Shields. They were
fantastic. Nothing
short of brilliant.
An excellent night
out for any Stones
fan. If you want a
trip back to the
early earthy bluesy
rock of the sixties
and seventies then
you must see The
Stones. If you've
never seen the real
thing then you must
see this band and if
you have seen the
real thing - relive
those magical
moments again.
Visually and
musically these guys
aren't to be missed"
- John Johnstone
"I can only agree
with what has been
said by others on
here about The
Stones, (I was going
to say tribute band
but unwarranted, I
can remember back to
the 60's and this
band is on par if
not BETTER than the
originals. They say
history repeats
itself, it has in
this instance, these
are professional
performers and a
credit to the
musical world. My
only critical point
is that the next tme
they come here, us
oldies may be
displaced by younger
fans who will
realise what they
are missing! I just
feel very privileged
that I have been
able to see such a
talented band. These
lads even presented
themselves in the
foyer minutes after
a great performance,
it was great to see
such professional
people, Mick Jagger
could probably pick
up a few pointers
from these lads!"
