Profile
They've
have been together so long now with the same line up
it's more like Flash Harry the family than Flash Harry
the band! They have been celebrating the music of Queen
all over Ireland and the UK for over 13 years, where
they have played sell-out gigs to Queen fans young and
old, recreating the legend and undeniably keeping the
flame alive.
The guys
have impressed all who have seen them with the sheer
brilliance of their show which incorporates all the
elements which were Queen's trademark: extravagance,
excellence in musicianship, professionalism, humour and
of course the icing on the cake, Harry Hamilton whose
portrayal of Freddie is nothing short of breathtaking!
Their
track record speaks volumes for the quality of their
show. They have sold out major venues time after time,
including Belfast's Grand Opera House
on no less than 13
separate occasions and Belfast's Waterfront Hall 4 times
to date. Thanks to Joy and Chris Kamar of K Music
Management they took on Ireland's largest concert venue
- The Point Depot in Dublin, where they performed to
almost 6000 ecstatic fans. In February 2000 they
travelled to Dubai, where they went down a storm with
the Arab and ex-pat community! In 2001 working with
David Hull Promotions they completed an extensive and
very successful tour of Ireland and the UK. They have
also taken their show to the USA again thanks to K Music
Management performing 4 shows in Atlantic City's largest
concert Venue the Tropicana Hotel Showroom. The shows
were a huge success receiving rave reviews and more
importantly a return invite to Las Vegas in January
2005.
As
the Sunday World puts it - "Don't turn away with the
idea that Flash is a mere novelty band. These guys can
play... the music, the movement, the attention to detail
and Harry Hamilton's uncanny likeness to Freddie Mercury
will ensure that people continue to marvel at their
shows for years to come."
One
of their greatest accolades received was when they were
invited to perform at the Official International Queen
Fan Club’s annual convention in Prestatyn, Wales in
April 1997. They performed in front of 2500 of Queen's
most ardent supporters, and went down a
storm! Perhaps the greatest compliment comes from the
magazine which could be most critical, The Official
Queen Fan Club Fanzine. It is the magazine which put the
seal of approval on the band following their performance
at the ’97 convention - Jacky Smith, who runs the Queen
fan club wrote: "A special thank you to Flash Harry who
performed on Friday night and were Brilliant!" They were
invited back this year to perform at the 20th Official
International Queen Fan Club’s annual convention and had
their best weekend yet!!
When
asked if they thought they were being a bit too
ambitious by taking on such large and potentially
financially disastrous venues, Harry and the boys
replied "Queen's music and stage show was the biggest
and best in the business and is best seen in these type
of venues. Their music is just as popular now as it has
always been - the bigger the better !"
Almost
as if to prove a point they booked one of the most
prestigious live music venues in the World, the Royal
Albert Hall in London for a Show on 15th October 2004
and put on the performance of a lifetime! The show was a
major success.
Make
sure you see Flash Harry and find out for yourself how
good they are.

Magic
Harry Hamilton "Vocals"
Harry
has been called many things (all good of course) but
perhaps the name that suits him best is "The Great
Pretender." He was named in Ireland's Buzz magazine as
"Most Entertaining Performer" for several years running,
and the show beat stars such as Van Morrison for the
award of "Best Live Act." Harry has to be seen and heard
to be believed.
Harry
is nothing like his mentor off stage, preferring a
newspaper and a cup of tea (the rest of the band are
very accommodating and have reluctantly agreed to do his
partying for him), but he has developed the knack of
"Switching
on" to his Freddie mode minutes before the start of each
show and more recently is developing a taste for the
finer things in life - like booze!!. His sense of humour
has kept his feet firmly on the ground and he enjoys
nothing more than dressing up in ladies clothing (only
for stage appearances of course). He also does a mean
Bruce Grobbelar impression?!
John
Cleland "Bass Guitar"
Cick
has an infectious sense of humour and is the 'ejit' of
the band - he keeps the spirits high whatever the mood.
Game for a laugh Click likes to party and sets the pace
for the rest of the band. He has been known to step off
moving vehicles such as tour coaches and motorcycles,
and while he can rock with the best of them he
definitely doesn’t bounce too well?!
Stevie
Shanks "Drums"
Stevie
Shanks is the man that makes your toes tap and your
hands clap (Phil Lynott 1977). A savage beater of the
drums Shanksy says "Every time the drums come
out of their case someone's gotta die!" When
he's not beating the crap out of his drums he's always
running around organising stuff or meeting people (we
think he knows all our audiences by name!!).
Stevie was previously the drummer with his own very
successful band Ashanti His emulation of Roger
Taylor's drumming style comes from years and years of
being an avid Queen fan.
Stevie Boyd "Guitar"
Stevie
Boyd may be the new guy in Flash Harry but he is
definitely not new to the Belfast gig circuit. Co
founder of Ashanti with Shanksy, Stevie has been
regarded as one of the top players around for many years
and when the audition came up that wasn't hard to spot!
Stevie has always been noted for his unique style of
playing (a good thing to have in a Queen tribute band)
which he's added to the Flash Harry sound not only with
his playing but also with his amazing vocals, so look
out here comes Stevie!
Stephen Posser "Keyboards"
Stephen
Prosser joined Flash Harry after he had come back from
England where he had been doing a tour of the club land
circuit. Stephen started playing the piano at the age of
seven while studying music at Belfast. His career in the
rock music scene started at the age of 13 playing lead
guitar and keyboards in a local school band. Joining
members of the Irish rock legend Sweet Savage in 1986
Stephen has worked extensively throughout Ireland and
Britain. As well as recording for many acts he has had
over 20 songs published and recorded by other artists.
Steve is the main brains behind organizing new
arrangements for the set when we need to change it.
