Profile:
Arundó" are a four piece group that play an exciting
mixture of traditional and contemporary Irish and Andean music. The name "Arundó"
is actually the term for a family of bamboo-like plants, one of which
produces the cane from which uilleann pipes are usually made. The name,
therefore, well reflects the groups music, which is dominated by the
mystical sounds of the uilleann and panpipes. The four members of the group
have crossed paths over the years in several different bands and at many a
local session.
For most people, the haunting sound of the Uilleann Pipes and Irish Music
are synonymous. Nothing heralds the arrival of the bride quite like the
sound of the pipes. As Ireland’s only indigenous instrument, the uilleann
pipes bring a unique and authentic mixture of ancient Irish Culture and
Tradition to your Wedding Day. This mystical sound is central to Arundó’s
melodic and atmospheric music.
Arundó have been performing wedding music since 2000 and in that time, the band has played hundreds of weddings in Ireland and in the U.K. As such, the band has accrued a vast amount of experience in this area. Arundó also perform outside of the wedding scene - the band gigs professionally in Ireland and has toured extensively in Germany and Holland. A good place to see the band play live is in Counihans bar, Pembroke St. (beside the GPO) in Cork city every Sunday night at 9:30pm.
As such, Arundó has a lot of experience with sound equipment – the band uses a top-class sound system. In our experience, this is essential in a big church. Even a small church with a large number of people can really ‘dull’ down the music unless some sort of a sound-amplification system is used. The sound equipment is compact and is always placed in a totally unobtrusive position (usually the church gallery).
Because of this, the sound you hear on an Arundó promo CD will be the precise sound you will also hear on your wedding day. Most other musicians/groups will not give you the option of sound amplification.
