Profile:

ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?’ were formed over eleven years ago and in that time they have become widely regarded as just about the best JIMI HENDRIX tribute show you will see.

Guitarist John Campbell bears more than just a passing resemblance and has drawn on his many years of playing in different bands and various styles to perfect his ‘Hendrix’ persona. When he plays his strat behind his head and with his teeth, it brings a smile to the face of even the most finicky Hendrix fan.

With his unique visual playing style, bass guitarist Mark Arnold has also played in various bands over the years and provides a solid foundation as one half of the rhythm section.

Drummer and backing vocalist Kevin O’Grady, completes the line up. Anyone who has caught the act will surely agree that Kevin puts nothing less than 100% into his powerhouse drumming style.

The band are proud to be playing the timeless music of JIMI HENDRIX, providing some nostalgic moments for those lucky people who actually witnessed Jimi in the flesh and recreating some of the magic for a new and eager audience.

Yes, there was and always will be only one, JIMI HENDRIX.

Catch ‘ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?’ when they come to town and relive the excitement and explosive stage show of the JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE. Let the band take you through all the favourites like ‘Hey Joe’, ‘Voodoo Chile’, ‘All Along The Watchtower’, ‘Foxy Lady’ and ‘Little Wing’, culminating in the guitar-burning finale of Wild Thing.

Band members

John (an ardent long time Hendrix fan) is in his element playing Jimi's music and re-creating the live stage show. Fans who have actually witnessed the real thing are amazed at the Hendrix vibe that Are You Experienced? bring back to life. John says "I get a real buzz out of watching the crowd when we're playing. And I like to think that I'm doing my bit to introduce Jimi's music to a new and eager audience. Jimi was truly unique".

Favourite song: Castles Made Of sand.

Anyone will tell you how important it is to have a strong solid rhythm section in a three piece band, and anyone who has been to an Are You Experienced? gig will tell you that Kevin is a powerhouse drummer, who never gives anything less than 100% to each and every gig.

Favourite song: Axis Bold As Love

Mark (the quiet member of the band) comes to life when he steps on stage to take over the bass playing duties. Drawing on his years as a gigging bassist, he adds his own distinctive visual style of playing to the line up.

Favourite song: Drifting

Reviews

Best Gig Ever Seen...

Fender’s very own Nigel Trimmington met up with Wayne Bennett, guitarist and bassist with one of the nation’s most successful solo artists, The Streets. The venue was the Lucas Arms in King’s Cross, London. After losing a tenner in the fruit machine, Wayne and Nigel sat down in the saloon bar and put the World to rights.

Fender: What do you consider to be the best gig you’ve ever seen?

Wayne: A guy called John Campbell. Hes in a Hendrix tribute act called ‘Are You Experienced?'. They played a club called the Met Lounge in Peterborough. I’ve seen him twice. That’s the closest Ive ever seen anyone come to Hendrix.

Fantastic!
Saw "Are You Experienced" last night at the Kings Theatre Southsea for the first time. A fantastic nights entertainment by a very well polished outfit.
John, you are simply right up there with the best of them and deserve to be playing to bigger audiences. A pleasure to meet you after the gig.

If you like Hendrix do yourself a favour and go and see these boys. All the best for the future and please come back down south as soon as is possible.

14th May 2004, by Eric Thompson

The Little civic show in Wolverhampton was for me, the first time i had ventured out to see Are you experienced.
I had come with reservations, after all I have been a Jimi Hendrix fan for more years than I can remember! and have to admit I was sceptical, how on earth could any band possibly look and sound like the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Well let me tell you this, as soon as the band took to the stage and started to perform "Hear my train a coming" the hair on the back of my neck stood on end, it was like being transported back in time to 1968, I was stunned and could not believe my eyes and ears, I stood with my mouth open as the band launched into song after song, little wing, fire, red house, bold as love and many more.
The atmosphere was truly electric,  almost as if the Jimi Hendrix experience were  in the room themselves!

The lead guitarist, John Campbell has captured the look and the sound of Jimi Hendrix and can play very high quality Hendrix music complete with feedback!
But wait a second this is no one man band, John is backed up by two outstanding musicians in their own right in the shape of Kevin O'grady (drum's/vocals) and Mark Arnold (Bass) who together provide a  rock solid foundation to the band.
The passion for the music shines through, these guys are a very tight unit on stage and boy can they play a mean tune!

The finale to the show "Wild thing" and even a burning guitar ,brought the evening to an end and i have nothing but praise for them, truly a remarkable experience and well worth coming to see.
Anyone who has any doubts as to the claim of being the best Hendrix tribute band, rest assured they most certainly are! So there you have it, I can't  wait to go and see them again, so what are you waiting for?
Be part of the Experience.
